Monica is an Of Counsel at ZMP.

Monica is the managing director of ZMP´s Romanian office since 2014. She is a dual qualified lawyer who graduated from the University of Bucharest and the National Institute for Lawyers’ Professional Training, as well as a licensed trademark attorney. She also holds an LLM in Business Law from the Nicolae Titulescu University in Bucharest. She is a member of the Bucharest Bar (Romania), the Alicante Bar (Spain) and the Romanian National Chamber of Industrial Property Attorneys.

Her practice focuses on IP law, although her expertise also covers areas such as information and communications technology (ITC), corporate and commercial law.

Her previous professional experience involves being an associate lawyer with several major local and international law firms, where she was dealing with a wide array of matters involving trademark and design rights, copyright and neighboring rights, ITC and personal data protection.

Since joining ZMP, Monica has been assisting clients in various industries with all type of matters related to their IP rights, with a special focus on trademark contentious and prosecution cases. She mainly handles opposition, appeal and cancellation matters, and also has extensive experience with infringement cases. She frequently advises large international clients on counterfeiting matters in Romania and provides assistance before the Romanian enforcement authorities. Moreover, Ms Novac provides strategic and practical advice in litigation matters, but also assists clients with out-of-court settlements.

Her experience includes due diligence investigations, as well as drafting and negotiating different types of agreements with an IP component.

Monica also deals with the ongoing management of clients´ IP portfolio and assists with clearance searches.

She has attended various IP seminars and conferences and has contributed to several online legal publications. She is a court sworn translator for English and Spanish, authorised by the Romanian and Spanish Ministries of Justice.
