IP And Mediation: A Perfect Match!

July 11, 2024

Last week, our colleagues Ivana Ervacanin and Dina Slunjski, alongside the esteemed Aida Marijan, First Vice President of the Croatian Association for Reconciliation (HUM) had the pleasure of collaborating hosting a captivating workshop on “Mediation in Intellectual Property Disputes.”

The event took place at the University of Zagreb, where we received a warm welcome from the students enrolled in the interdisciplinary postgraduate IP studies program. Their enthusiasm and engagement made the workshop a memorable experience. A big thank you to the University of Zagreb for being such gracious hosts!

The workshop was a multifaceted journey through the world of mediation and intellectual property. It comprised three core elements:

  1. Legislation Framework: We explored the legal backdrop for mediation in Croatia, providing students with a solid understanding of the regulatory environment.
  2. Dispute Resolution Strategies: The session delved into various strategies for resolving disputes, emphasizing the importance and effectiveness of mediation in IP conflicts.
  3. Practical Exercise: To bring theory into practice, we conducted a hands-on exercise featuring an example from the realm of copyright disputes. This exercise allowed participants to apply their knowledge and experience the mediation process firsthand.

At our workshop, we highlighted how mediation serves as a bridge between conflicting parties, fostering understanding and collaboration. Instead of a win-lose scenario, mediation paves the way for win-win solutions, preserving professional relationships and creating a more harmonious business environment.

We are proud to have had the opportunity to share our expertise and passion for mediation with the next generation of IP professionals. By equipping them with these valuable skills, we are contributing to a future where disputes are not just settled, but resolved in a manner that benefits all parties involved.

Thank you once again to everyone who participated and to the University of Zagreb for making this event possible. We look forward to continuing our journey of promoting mediation and advancing the field of intellectual property.
