This year, the ECTA 42nd Annual Conference, themed “Many Facets of IP” was hosted in the magnificent city of diamonds, Antwerp. The conference took place at the Flanders Meeting and Convention Centre, conveniently located next to the stunning historic train station connected to the Antwerp Zoo. Our colleague Ivana Knezevic from the Croatian office attended this event and brought back numerous insights and updates regarding recent developments in the world of intellectual property.
Committee meetings were commenced on the first day, followed by a workshop: Mediation and ADR, Dispute Resolution from an Alternate Angle, and a welcome reception at the beautiful Grand Café Horta, called the masterpiece of Art Nouveau style.
The program on Thursday was engaging and diverse. The latest IP news and trends were opened with, and the major topics of sustainability and AI were continued with. Day 1 was perfectly ended with a Belgian buffet dinner and a walk in the Antwerp Zoo. Special praise was given to the extraordinary Butterfly Garden.
On Friday, topics of copycats, animal trademarks, cultural heritage and copyright, as well as diversity and inclusion in the IP profession, were explored, finishing with the brilliant EU Case Law update. The Conference was closed with the gala dinner at the impressive Handelsbeurs, the oldest stock exchange in the world.
Three days of outstanding speakers, important topics, profound legal knowledge shared by the best IP experts, and both professional and personal experiences were exchanged with colleagues from all over the world.
